It is May? Seriously I cannot believe it is May.

I am officially no longer a rodeo queen. I’m what we affectionately call a has-been. But before I can get into that, I have to tell you about the last month!

Following the wedding in true Reba style I managed to kill my truck, like possibly for good, when my fan snapped and almost went through my water pump. This resulted in Daddy having to drive 3 hours to pick me up with the car trailer, as I waited by the side of the road roping my dummy.

But I managed to make it back to my Mother Lode home in time for rodeo week! The contest was absolutely incredible, though somehow I managed to be almost as nervous as the contestants. Perhaps that was because I chose break the mold once again, completing my farewell ride to my favorite song, instead of a long winded thank you letter.  But the absolute icing on the cake, was on the last set of spin, figure 8, run down, I stopped, reached forward, dropped my bridle, and with every breath held completed the most fabulous finale.

I’m not gonna lie, even I was a bit scared, because while I had practiced this in secret for weeks, Mouse is not always known for her dependability.  But she surprised me yet again and took my breath away. Coronation night the girls did awesome, and despite technical difficulties, went off spectacularly. I managed to keep my cool all the way until I was set to walk on stage for my final speech, unbeknownst to me, my absolute favorite Posse member took my arm to lead me on stage. Truly I didn’t know how I would be able to not dissolve into tears. But with tears in his own eyes he looked at me and said,

“Now don’t you do that. Remember, Corgi.”

That was all it took for my story to come full circle as I crowned our next girl, the youngest queen in our history and the town favorite. Sure I have a bit of hesitation because of her age, but I know she is a beautiful soul and will do the job proud.

Up next was rodeo week, but that is another post for another day.

Not the best photo, but sadly the only one I have of our bridleless ride.
